Maurice FAIVRE
Mountain guide, Maurice FAIVRE is born in Franche Comté, mountainous
area in France.
Very young, in 1974, he passes the mountain guide diploma.
He starts with the difficulties of the Alps, but his deep feeling of discovery
obliges him to travel, to face new challenges.
In autumn 1975 he climbs the famous american mountains : Yosemite ! Capitan,
Nose, Half Dome, Salaté and Salaté Route have no secret
for him.
A new aim was appearing : going to Peru. Maurice
climbs the first direct route of the south side of Huandoy with René
DESMAISON. 30 days of fight to reach the summit of this 1,000
meters mountain, with an altitude ranging from 5,100 m to 6,167 m at the
top. The following year, Maurice rises the South West arete of the Huandoy.
During this expedition, he visists Peru, Bolivia, Equator and Guatemala.
In 1984, he prepares an expedition to Nepal, the Makalu. He has fallen
in love with this country.... Since then, he treks there every year. Each
time, AmaDablam charms him. Quickly Maurice meets local people and becomes
their friend. According to him, "nepal people have another sens
of life, very different of ours based only on money. Religions as Hinduism
and Buddhism make people strong, spiritual and aware of themselves".

Thirty years of mountainous activities, human discoveries and communicatoin
with the natural beauties have increased the initial motivation of Maurice
